Week 2 - Isabelle

This picture shows the Pacific Theatres in Glendale. I and a friend had a walk around in Glendale and we just got that special “Hollywood Feeling” that was still missing after my arrival in LA when we were crossing the movie theater. The movie posters were just shining so bright and colorful, seemed to be so glamorous and had this old fashioned style. It just seemed to be something very special to go to the cinema. It also felt like that the LED Lights underneath the canopy want to lead you to the register.
There are not many lights that have a huge luminance, but the way of making it so glamorous with just using a light box that lights up the cinema posters is impressive. The colors seem to be so strong, warm and inviting.
I think this shows us, that we don’t always have to use as many effects as possible to create a great light show. It shows us more, that we sometimes have to be cautions and that we should think about the best lights to represent the 5 types of Lighting Design.

  1. Lovely commentary on such a classic, iconic scene! The cinema has that flashy, vintage Hollywood feel for sure and that is definitely reflected in the lighting design! I love seeing different fields of lighting design really succeeding in their own storytelling. The point of this architectural design is to lure people in, to showcase the upcoming films and to create that energy that the public associates with movies! Nice!
