Week 10 - Maria Marin

Yesterday I went to see a play. On my way out, I saw  that many walls were completely covered with leafs and they were illuminated with lights but each wall had a different angles of light. The one that I like the most was this one because the lighting was coming from the top and that made it seem like if it was forming a heart. I really liked the idea and how different angles of light can create different shapes.

  1. Interesting! This brings up a great awareness for architectural light! normally flat surfaces (even flat surfaces covered in shrubbery) are lit as close as possible, so the light is scraping the surface, much like a cyc light does for a wall of color at the back of the stage. By downlighting, uplighting, or even scraping light along the side of flat surfaces, we are creating as much texture and sculpting as possible along the wall, instead of lighting it from the front far away, which flattens and dulls the architecture. See if you can notice how flat surfaces of buildings are lit as you drive or walk by them... :)
