For my site-specific blog, I chose to use Disneyland because I was too scared for Horror Nights. I got there really early so I had to wait till it got dark to really look at the lighting around the park, and not just the rides in the dark. I added a picture of the castle in the daytime as well and this still looked pretty but not as beautiful with the lights on. It was such a huge difference from day to night, and the vibe was also very different. For my overall picture, I chose Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, the castle that attracts so many eyes. I attracted my eyes because of how gorgeous it looked with all the lighting done to it. It had beautiful lavenders mixed with blues. I think the designer really succeeded in this because the bottom of the castle is darker and as it gets higher it gets brighter and more appealing. The castle also had icicles running down and this added to the wintry cold feeling. The icicles were almost pouring out of the peaks from the castle. The sky was pitch black and this beautiful castle was the center of attention. As you walked up to the castle there were warm lamps, and it fit in very good with this composition. It had those warm and cool colors combining. The top of the castle was more lit, as it was the brightest in this whole composition. It was a very cold night that day and this castle made it feel like I was in Winter Wonderland and not in Anaheim.

I took this picture in Fantasyland, in which everything is fantasy and pretty pinks. I immediately went to this ride, the teacups because of the beautiful lanterns they had hung. It has a variety of different colors from yellows and reds to pretty pinks and purples. This really added to the mood, because all these beautiful saturate colors spilled out a pretty magenta and it washed beautifully all over the floor. It made everything look happy inside while you were twirling and getting dizzy. Fantasyland’s color palette was pinks and purples, and the designer bringing in other colors into this mix really was great. The fact that they were inside the lantern almost served as a gel color, and it poured out those vibrant happy colors. Even though there was a red in there and it kind of threw me off, I still think it was still very pleasing to the aesthetic.

I took this picture in Tomorrowland when I went inside to Pizza Port to eat. This land is all about planets and outer space. When I walked in I immediately noticed the combination of warm and cool lights in the ceiling. The intensity of these lights was very high and were the ones lighting up the whole space. This caught my attention because it gave me an alien vibe as if our brains were being sucked out while eating. I also did notice that there were fewer blue lights than the warm ones. Only made me wonder why the designer did this choice. The design attached to the wall also had light coming out from them. I liked this because it was very bright and it created a glow. It also had a beautiful outline outlining the top of the design. There were some spots where I noticed gaps, and it did confuse me as well. Overall I liked the design of this pizzeria, the lighting was very bright and really made you feel like you were eating in outer space.

Overall the lighting in Disneyland was very great. It really did feel like the "Happiest Place on Earth"  with all the happy bright colors in each location surrounding you all around. The use of blues, pink, and purple lights was more of a Disneyland vibe than the scary red and greens of Horror Nights.

  1. gahh I love how magical and colorful Disneyland is! It's really beautifully lit and designed in every element. I LOVE the castle lighting and how sparkly it is, mixed with the fireworks, it's just awe-inspiring! Love how each ride and every restaurant is telling a story. It's so fun! Really great writing and commentary on your observations! Nice work!
