Site Specific - Maria Marin


For my specific blog I decided to do Disney California Adventure. I had the experience to visited years ago ad it was during summer. There was not much lighting to see  and I was not paying attention to the lighting like I did this time. When I entered the park there was not much lighting to see until I got out of the park. I noticed that the lighting from the entrance of the park looked gloomy. Also the lighting of the entrance changed into different colors. For me instead of looking scary it looked fascinating. 


When I went to California Adventure I entered cars land I felt like I was inside a movie and the lighting of the park looked bright and it was not scary a all. There was a lot of UV lighting and violets and pinks combined. Also everything was lighted up. There was not much of places that were not lighted. It was like entering to a fantasy world. Which is completely different from Halloween Horror nights. I did not wanted to risk myself in going pregnant because I could of been seared and that would of been bad to me. From that previous experience of horror nights I remember that many of the alleys and places were people were walking were completely dark and we barely could of see. That's what it makes it so different from California adventure because this was more for kids. Even though some kids were scared others were excited because everything was changed into the halloween theme.


When I saw this it was very interesting of how they do it because at first the pumpkin looked nice and were smiling but then they transformed into this scary faces. Their smiles and eyes had lights in it   they looked like those pumpkin that had candles inside in other to be illuminated. Also those pumpkins were put in the snow so with the used of a blue light the white looked light and dark blue. The right use of lighting matters because it they had use a warm light or an amber light to light up the snow that would of looked completely different and it would not given the same illumination that it was providing. 




As I was enjoying the park I noticed that even the typical ballots had lighting inside. It was really cool to see the different lights of the balloons. They put the same color light for all of them but the balloons were different colors that is why it was transmitting different tones of lighting.
I had a wonderful experience at Disneyland and California adventure and by taking this class I was able to pay attention in detail to the lighting of the park.

    oooh I was lucky enough to get to go to Disney too when they still had some of the Halloween decorations up and were adding in Christmas ones! Such a great park and a big difference from Universal! I love how COLORFUL Disney is. Yes, it's a bit more geared towards kids but it's just more theatrical and bright! Love the pumpkin tower with the warm glowing pumpkins vs. the cold blue tower. Nice descriptions!

I went to the Universal Studios to visit the Halloween Horror Nights. It was a great night with lots of fun and scary moments that were created with a great combination of sound, lighting and actors. An overall atmosphere was created by hazer and some small lighted spots on walls or spots with a fireplace and witches. I think designers used that to introduce the horror nights in calm way to slowly accustom the participants to the horror nights. I think the designers also wanted that the scale of being frightened can increase within the mazes and different areas. As I already been there for daytime, you could really tell the differences between the dream world of the universal studios and the horror world at nighttime. I was afraid that any moment someone would approach me from behind or from a hidden spot to scare me again. Week 14 - Isabelle Menze

    This week I was in the middle of the "pre-production" of our final project. In the play there is a silver moon as a light source. When I was walking through the streets I saw exactly what I imagined of that moon light mentioned in the play. There was a silver moon shining through the clouds, creating a moody and at the same time glamorous and mysterious atmosphere. The clouds looked moody, but the moon by itself added the glamorous, mysterious atmosphere because it was shining so bright. Even if it was a cold color (silver/ very light, cold blue), the clouds and the dark bluish night sky created a warm, mysterious feeling and environment. Even if the street was lighted with street lights so that the moon wasn't the only light source, it felt like it was like the main or the source of light on a stage. Week 2 - Rafael Medina

As I turned off the lobby lights at work, sunlight passed through one window and another, partially lighting a black chair. I wish I had a better camera lens on my mobile device that can handle the light glare a bit better. Oh well! Although the chair is not in the center of my photo, a strong case could be made that is object of attention. It's shadow is distorted. The front of the seat is absorbing light and the curvature of the padded seat can be noticed. I like this photo.   I feel like this photo can tell a hundred different stories.
