week 2 Jose M. Cortes

Whenever I want to relax from a stressful I turn to my computer for relief. Oddly enough my eyes are sensitive to lights so even though I have a lamp next to me I don't turn it on unless I'm writing or reading something. I love how dim my room is only using the light coming from the TV and the small led light from my computer because it is just enough to see and find things I need like snacks or more snacks. It reminds me of the blue work light we would use in high school to help the stage hands move stuff around. Sometimes our neighbors have their light turned on and it comes through my window. I don't mind because it is feint and a really warm light.

I chose to photograph the sky because of the way the sunlight and clouds work together in the way a lighting instrument with a gobo function in a stage. In this picture the clouds are serving their purpose like a gobo. The clouds are creating these patterns in the sky and the sun light is shining through them creating effect of sunlight raining down on the earth. They highlight the sunlight. In the theatrical world you will use a gobo with patterns on it representing a cloudy and sunny day or a symbol to present an angel or spirit watching over you. This sight is very peaceful and calming to the eyes in a morning when everyone is rushing to start their day. It is a type of sense for hope.

Maria Marin- Week 2

On my way home, something caught my attention. It was the mirror of the car I do not always pay attention to this because it hurt my eyes to see how bright the sun was but I was able to capture this image. I really liked to see how the mirror was reflecting the sunlight. I also liked to see how water spots reflected different colors in the mirror. The intensity of light is different from one mirror to another. This is a cool effect that mirrors do. I t created a warm and breezy look. I felt like it was those afternoons during winter.  Maria Marin

Also I didn ’t take the foto within the last week, I felt like it’s the most accurate match for my first post, because the lighting in it perfectly represents the mood and emotion on this specific day. Just the evening before I got to LA I sat with my two roommates ( my best friend and her dog ) in our living room in Germany, while the sun was about to set. The lighting was warm, almost cosy, but the beams also threw this strong and heavy shadows, which brought this very dramatic touch to the whole scenery.  As the light got less and the shadows grew bigger, we realized how less time we got left together until I will be gone for rest of the year.

Week 2 - Isabelle

This picture shows the Pacific Theatres in Glendale. I and a friend had a walk around in Glendale and we just got that special “Hollywood Feeling” that was still missing after my arrival in LA when we were crossing the movie theater. The movie posters were just shining so bright and colorful, seemed to be so glamorous and had this old fashioned style. It just seemed to be something very special to go to the cinema. It also felt like that the LED Lights underneath the canopy want to lead you to the register. There are not many lights that have a huge luminance, but the way of making it so glamorous with just using a light box that lights up the cinema posters is impressive. The colors seem to be so strong, warm and inviting. I think this shows us, that we don’t always have to use as many effects as possible to create a great light show. It shows us more, that we sometimes have to be cautions and that we should think about the best lights to represent the 5 types of Lighting...

Week 2 - Misa

I found this when I went home after school. My focus is not the the sun coming in from the window between blinds and creating the sharp shadows. The sun happened to hit the wired pink mat (my roommate brought the mat) and reflect the pink color on the ceiling. It is interesting to see how light and color reflects. I think it is cool when lighting designer creates something that was not in the plan, but turns out to be a very beautiful effect.
